I first became aware of dark comedy when I watched a 1998 movie called Very Bad Things. I was sceptical at first as to me the cover looked like it was going to be another dull typical romance caper. I was pleasantly surprise as at the time I didn’t have access to a computer so never saw film reviews about it. It took you to a setting of a stag do in Las Vegas lads being lads hire a sexy prostitute who ends up taking one of the group a horny Jeremy Piven into the bathroom for a good time. I wasn’t overly enthralled at this point but how wrong I was.
I nearly turned it off and was about to curse the video that I had foolishly bought when Jeremy’s character clumsily picks her up and unbeknownst to him has slammed her head through a coat hook on the wall. Ooooh I didn’t see that coming. Needless to say I was then hooked. (forgive the pun). From the moment he ahem finishes he realises what he has done. Of course the obvious course of action is call the police and explain it was an accident right? Not everybody agrees. Some Very Bad Things happen with a deliciously dark and funny undertone. I recommend this movie but not if you have a nervous disposition as it’s pretty fucked up.
The room looks like the Manson family stayed here a month.”
Don’t let him bleed on the carpet!

I’m reminded that I was a fan of dark comedy further back then that film. If you look at films like Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes or Pink Panther or The Producers they all have elements of dark comedy
